This collection presents a different side to Singaporeās award-winning poet who sets out to recall a real childhood, where children are not the little innocents people think all children are, and growing up is full of hazards, not the least of which is the author herself, recalling some of her experiences growing up in the 1950s. -
Anne Lee Tzu Pheng is one of Singaporeās distinguished poets.Ā A retired university lecturer, she has published in anthologies and journals internationally. Her three volumes of poetry,Ā Prospect of a DrowningĀ (1980),Ā Against the Next WaveĀ (1988) andĀ The Brink of an AmenĀ (1991), have won awards given out by the National Book Development Council of Singapore (NBDCS). She is also a recipient of theĀ Cultural MedallionĀ for literature (1985), and other awards such as the Southeast Asia WRITE Award (1987), Gabriela Mistral Award (Chile, 1995) and the Montblanc-NUS Centre for the Arts Literary Award for English poetry (1996).
